An outline of the 13th Exhibition
On the occasion of the meeting with the representatives of 41 Countries participating in the 13th Architecture Biennale, David Chipperfield has said: “I want this Biennale to celebrate a vital, interconnected architectural culture, and pose questions about the intellectual and physical territories that it shares. My Biennale will encourage the collaboration and dialogue that I believe is at the heart of architecture, and the title will also serve as a metaphor for architecture's field of activity.” >>

History of the Architecture Biennale
The first exhibitions dedicated to architectural subjects were realized in the period 1975-1978 by the director of the Art section, Vittorio Gregotti. The Architecture section was established in 1980: director Paolo Portoghesi for the first time opened to visitors the Corderie dell'Arsenale venue, turning it into a “strada novissima”. The history of the Architecture Biennale has been continuing since then, and will get in 2012 to the 13th edition of the exhibition, directed by David Chipperfield.
