Prize for Young Italian Art, 4th edition (2006 – 2007)

Arsenale, Sala Marceglia, Castello, 2169/e

from June 10 to November 21

Aiming at promoting national artistic research and at identifying the most promising experiences, the prize has been awarded to young artist Nico Vascellari. Chosen among the candidates proposed by Italian contemporary art museum directors, the winner has been selected by a jury composed by the directors of the GAM in Turin, the MADRE Museum in Naples, the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna and the MAXXI Museum in Rome, which will host the awarded work. The event has been curated by Paolo Colombo and Monica Pignatti Morano.

And so it goes: Artists from Wales includes new work by Richard Deacon, Merlin James and Heather & Ivan Morison. Incorporating an enquiring and diverse approach to sculpture, painting, sound and documentary-style film presentation, the artists explore established and new spaces in the Ex Birreria.

Aniwaniwa

Magazzini del Sale, Dorsoduro, 259 (Zattere)

Aniwaniwa is a collection of suspended “wakahuia” (a vessel containing precious things), large carved sculptures with internal projections and sound components holding memories of Horahora, a place now submerged under water. Aniwaniwa is a collaboration between artists Brett Graham and Rachael Rakena and it is curated by Alice Hutchison, Camilla Seibezzi and Milovan Farronato.

ATOPIA

Palazzo delle Prigioni, San Marco, Castello, 4209

from June 10 to November 21

ATOPIA, curated by Hongjohn Lin, presents non-place as the spatial metaphor to unravel the politico-cultural logic of globalization. Within the exceptional state of Taiwan, individualism can only act out against everyday reality to perform in-the-name-of-other-names. Participating artists are Ming-liang Tsai, Huang-chen Tang, Kuo Min Lee, Shih-chieh Huang, and VIVA.
