A practical guide to the 66th Venice Film Festival
• Press welcome. All press accreditation badges must, as of this year, be picked up from the first floor of the Palazzo del Casinò, at the new entrance on the dockyard side, from 9 am on 1 September 2009.
• Press Office. The Press Office is located on the third floor on the Palazzo del Casinò.
• Press Room. The Press Room for writing and sending copy and pictures is on the third floor of the Palazzo del Casinò, with a wi-fi area set aside for laptops and a new dining/relaxation zone.
• Official press conferences. The official press conference room is located on the third floor of the Palazzo del Casinò. The conferences are held every day from 11 am.
• Following each individual conference: photo-calls, on the terrace of the third floor of the Palazzo del Casinò; interviews, organised by Eurovision, official TV broadcaster of the 66th International Venice Film Festival, and Radio Calls, curated by Radio Monte Carlo, all on the third floor of the Palazzo del Casinò.
• Catalogues. The official catalogue is on sale in the two Electa bookshops: in the atrium of the Palazzo del Casinò and in the Garden, next to the outdoor box office. During the Festival, official merchandise of the 66th International Venice Film Festival will be on sale. The catalogue is available at a cover price of €28, discounted to €23 for accredited guests.
• Assistance to photographers and camera operators. The coordination office for photographers and camera operators, as well as the Canon Professional Service for assistance and equipment hire, is found on the third floor of the Casinò.
• Pigeonhole room. Equipped with an electronic opening system and around 1,800 pigeonholes, from this year, it will be located on the first floor of the Palazzo del Casinò, for the distribution of press-books, press releases and all documentation relating to the Festival.
• Distribution of photos, CD images, audio and TV clips. Supply of these materials will also be on the first floor of the Casinò, next to the pigeonhole room. This year too, images from the films selected for Venice will be made available for the press on the internet, via image.net during the Festival.
• Industry Office. The Industry Office will offer the use of its facilities to producers and international distributors.
• The Industry Lounge, on the second floor of the Palazzo del Casinò, is open to all those with Industry accreditation, and includes an information and business centre, internet zones with wi-fi coverage, an open bar, a desk for meetings and the brand new Digital Videolibrary reserved for the films at the Festival.
• The Excelsior Industry Club, located on the terrace of the Hotel Westin Excelsior, will host gatherings reserved for buyers, distributors, their guests and all those with Film Delegation accreditation; it includes internet zones with wi-fi coverage, an open bar and a desk for meetings.
• The Industry Lounge and the Excelsior Industry Club have been set up in partnership with the Regione Veneto regional authority.
Facilities and services
Lancia Cafe. The terrace of the Hotel Westin Excelsior will not only host special events for delegations and producers, but also meetings with artists, producers and the media for one-to-one interviews with directors and actors.
Quintessentially - Azimut Win Win Terrace. The terrace opposite the Casinò, created by Stella Events, will host meetings, presentations, interviews and social events. Inside, a restaurant (with discounts for accredited guests) and a late-night bar open to the public, the Nastro Azzurro Club, an elegant area that will host film delegations attending the Festival; La Spa, free, is reserved for accredited guests (reservations essential).
One of the major new aspects of 2009 is the prestigious presence in the swimming pool area of Style Star which, via a channel dedicated to fashion, cinema and technology on the Microsoft portal www.msn.it, will broadcast interviews and news on both the world of fashion and film.
Wide screens. Near the Palazzo del Cinema and the Palazzo del Casinò, there will be two giant wide screens for the public, with images and news reports on the Festival. The service is offered in partnership with Outdoor Revolution.
For security reasons, access to the area of the 66th Venice Film Festival will only be permitted at certain checkpoints. The area will be closed to traffic during the event. No luggage may be taken into the area; a baggage deposit will be available for accredited guests and members of the public. No audio/video recording devices or cameras may be taken into the screening theatres.
