XXXI Mostra internazionale d’arte cinematografica (1970)
The Venice International Film Festival has closed under the crossfire of heated debate. “Of the 17 films screened during the festival, few have saved themselves from the disaster that has struck the foreign films in particular. Italy saved face thanks to the two long television films made by Rossellini and Fellini for Rai TV, Socrates and The Clowns. Francesco Rosi’s film Uomini contro deserves a word apart”, says the announcer. For the 1970 edition, no Golden Lions were awarded, but it was decided to honour Orson Welles with a prize “for the body of his work”.
