Italian films from the 70th Venice Film Festival in Beirut (Lebanon)

From 20 to 25 February, 2014

For the first time ever, the Italian films screened at the Venice International Film Festival will be at the focus of a film series in Beirut.
 
The film event “Venezia Cinema a Beirut”, organized by the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, with the Italian Institute of Culture in Lebanon, will begin tomorrow Thursday February 20th 2014 and will continue through Tuesday February 25th 2014.
 
Four Italian films from the official Selection of the 70th Venice Film Festival, directed by Alberto Barbera, will be presented at the Metropolis Empire Sofil – Acharafieh in Beirut.
The opening film, tomorrow February 20th at 7:00 pm, will be L’intrepido by Gianni Amelio (in Competition for Venezia 70).
It will be followed on Friday February 21st by Via Castellana Bandiera by Emma Dante (in Competition for Venezia 70), with the participation of the star Elena Cotta, winner of the Coppa Volpi on the Lido for Best Actress, who will meet the audience.
The screening on Monday February 24th will feature La prima neve by Andrea Segre (Orizzonti). The closing film, on Tuesday February 25th, will be Sacro GRA by Gianfranco Rosi, the film that won the Golden Lion Award at the 70th Venice International Film Festival.
 
Similar initiatives have been organized in recent years by the Biennale di Venezia to promote Italian cinema around the world: since 2005 in Brazil, since 2006 in Russia, since 2009 in China, since 2012 in Korea.
 
In particular, the Italian films of the 70th Venice International Film Festival 2013 were screened infilm series organized in Brazil and Korea. Others will follow in the coming months of 2014, in China, Russia and for the first time in Croatia and Singapore.
