The competition is aimed at 18 to 26 year-old participants coming from all over the world, for the production of a short animated video of any subject and of a maximum duration of five minutes (5’). The participation closed on 20th August 2009.

The winning short films were announced today by the President of La Biennale di Venezia, Paolo Baratta, during the opening press conference of the 66th Festival:

The first 3 filmmakers in the rankings will be given hospitality and accreditation at the 66th Venice International Film Festival on 6th and 7th September, on the occasion of the presentation of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to John Lasseter and of the Disney•Pixar Animation master class organized at the Lido by the Biennale with Disney•Pixar. They will also have free accreditation for the 67th Venice Film Festival, in 2010. Other animated short films will be selected and will be posted online at www.labiennalechannel.org, including the animated videos realized by the first 3 prize-winning filmmakers.

Moreover, today, 2nd September, the Concorso nazionale per un saggio di critica cinematografica (National competition for the realization of a film criticism essay) dedicated to Tullio Kezich will be launched. The competition is aimed at Italian participants aged from 18 to 26 years old.
The essays will have to be emailed within the 30th October 2009 to the following  address: saggidicinema@labiennale.org. The papers will need to focus on one of the films scheduled for the official screenings (Venezia 66, Out of Competition, Orizzonti, Controcampo Italiano) of the 66th Venice Film Festival. The jury will choose the 10 best essays. The first 3 in the rankings will be given full hospitality for the 67th Venice International Film Festival, in 2010. This includes free accreditation and a catalogue of the Festival, along with the chance to attend the press conferences of the selected films. The  next 7 in the rankings will have the chance to receive free accreditation and a catalogue of the 67th Festival.
The 10 winning essays, as well as other essays which the jury will judge of particular criticism value, will be published on the website www.labiennalechannel.org.
