Daina Ashbee - Unrelated

A lucid but sombre work that lends a voice to those who don’t have one, that expresses the cruelty inflicted on aboriginal women in Canada, thousands of whom disappeared as did their children, in an exploration of self, of cultural impoverishment, of the loss of languages, traditions and rituals, of violence and self- destruction. The sense of emptiness explodes and flares up violently alluding to the loss of identity and sense of community.
Unrelated is a study of the body’s subconscious, a destruction and transformation of one’s own image, deliberately upsetting in its creative sensuality.
