Description

Dance, 1979, is a milestone in the art of pure choreography, with no references but to itself, to its own essence, it is a celebration of the infinite generative potential of movement. The partnership with Philip Glass, for his crystalline score, and with Sol LeWitt for the video images engaged in a dialogue on the stage with the dancers, doubled in number and shown from various angles – originally the same –, is equally matched and consubstantial. The play of repetitions and variations on the same mother cell is balanced and shared in an atmosphere of crystalline clarity. The sound flows in elegant, fluid loops that are constantly altered.

The basic steps are simple, skips and turns, in diagonal trajectories, arcs, circles and in increasingly complex combinations, mastered physically and mentally. The visual effect is an effortless, timeless fluctuation.

The evening at the Teatro alle Tese is to be opened by the Award Ceremony of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to Lucinda Childs.
