Dance Biennale

28th, 29th, 30th June 2013

26 new choreographies are in the line-up of the Dance Biennale. Director Virgilio Sieni has distributed them as the different chapters of one “tale” titled Living in the World: Prima Danza, Vita Nova, Atleta Donna, Visitazioni, Agorà, and Invenzioni.
The six “episodes” will unfold across two areas of Venice, each day with a different “tale”: shows and performances will take place at the Arsenale on 28th June, and in the San Marco area on 29th and 30th June.

History of the Dance Biennale

The Dance section of the Venice Biennale was established in 1998, as a result of the reform law of the Biennale that year. The American dancer and choreographer Carolyn Carlson was appointed director for the four-year period 1999 to 2002. Before 1998, dance performances presented at the Venice Biennale were part of the Music program.
