THE PROGRAM 18 > 26 February

La Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, announces the 8th International Kids’ Carnival, titled The Playrooms, which will take place from Saturday February 18th to Sunday February 26th in Venice, featuring free workshops with reservation required, and concerts and performances open to the public on weekends.
Unlike the previous editions, this year's International Kids' Carnival will be held in the headquarters of the Biennale at Ca' Giustinian in the centre of Venice (San Marco, 1364/a) on the first floor (Portego and Sala delle Colonne) and in the Laboratorio delle Arti (in the adjacent Calle del Ridotto), from 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, 11 am – 6 pm Saturday and Sunday.
The most important new organizational aspect of the 8th edition of the Biennale Carnival is that reservations are required to participate in the free workshops, to guarantee the quality of the public's participation.
This year's Biennale Carnival thus intends to confirm its role as a place and a project where young people, children and teenagers can experiment with different activities in spaces equipped for the purpose (The Play Rooms, which inspired the title of this year's Biennale Carnival). Only registered participants will be allowed admission to the activities, which will involve students in specific projects dedicated to "experiential education".
Admission to the concerts and performances, on the weekends, will be open to the public while seats last.
Participating in the 8th International Kids’ Carnival, inspired by Music, will be 5 Countries (Bolivia, Germany, Hungary, Romania and the United States), as well as Conservatories and Music Schools, foreign institutions and national and local cultural organizations. 50 local Schools have already registered for the workshops.
The Music Special section conceived by the Director of the Music Sector Ivan Fedele, will involve children and adults in the fantastic world of Scheherazade, a story still... (Saturday February 18th, inauguration day) and The story of Renetta and Red Tree (Sunday February 26th, last day), two musical fairy tales composed by Letizia Michielon and produced entirely by students from local schools.
The musical events will feature the collaboration of the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory of Venice, and the "Antonio Buzzolla" Conservatory of Adria, who will hold musical workshops. The MusicaScuola workshop for the first time will work with the Orchestra Giovani Musicisti Veneti from Treviso in an "experiential education" project with a final performance on Sunday February 19th. A project has also been planned for pre-school children (ages 0-3 years), titled Musifilastroccole.
The  8th International Kids’ Carnival will feature a programme that includes:
·  School Days: workshops, sounds and songs (reservation required)
·  The Magnificents: workshops, sounds and songs organized by 11 Schools selected across Italy and Austria
·  The Countries (5): workshops, sounds and songs from Bolivia, Germany, Hungary, Romania and the United States of America
·  The Institutions: workshops, sounds and songs with 2 Conservatories:  B. Marcello of Venice, A. Buzzolla of Adria, as well as UNICEF
·  The collaborations: H FARM EDUCATION, IL Club dei Piccoli from Pianiga (VE) and the social cooperative Il Cerchio Onlus of Venice
For all the kids, a creative costume-making workshop will be open, with reservation required, to make rapid accessories using fabric, paper and simple or recycled materials.
As always, the inauguration day (February 18th) will also feature the awards ceremony for the Silver Lion for Creativity Competition for Italian Schools.

A prize will be awarded again this year to the schools that have been participating longest: this “loyalty prize” is also intended as an acknowledgment to the teachers who have encouraged the participation of their classes and institutions.
The International Kids’ Carnival is an important Educational Project of the Biennale now in its eighth edition, and is intended for young people, schools and families. Its goal is to stimulate the creativity and involvement of young people in performances, workshops, competitions, mask and costume-making, encouraging their personal participation and commitment.
We would like to thank F.I.L.A. Fabbrica Italiana Lapis ed Affini, which with their Giotto brand are the Official Colours of the 8th International Kids’ Carnival, Vela – VeneziaUnica, Ghiott Dolciaria and Rubelli.
