The Special Project made possible thanks to an agreement between la Biennale di Venezia and Teatro La Fenice, will be devoted this year to the opera Norma by Vincenzo Bellini.
The new production of Norma is commissioned by La Fenice in terms of staging, set and costume design, to the African American artist Kara Walker, upon recommendation of the curator of the Art Biennale in 2015, continuing the collaboration between the two institutions begun in 2013 with Madama Butterfly whose sets and costumes were entrusted to the Japanese artist Mariko Mori and the stage direction to the director of the Biennale Theatre, Àlex Rigola.
In Norma, Gaetano d'Espinosa will conduct the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro La Fenice (Chorus Master Claudio Marino Moretti) and a cast of prestige which will involve the tenor Gregory Kunde in the role of Pollio, the mezzo-soprano Veronica Simeoni performing as Adalgisa, bass Dmitry Beloselskiy as Oroveso, soprano Anna Bordignon as Clotilde and tenor Emanuele Giannino as Flavio.
The première of Wednesday, May 20th 2015 will be followed by three repeat performances on Sunday May 24th, Wednesday 27th and Saturday 30th, and two performances in June: Wednesday 3rd and Saturday 6th. In May, Norma will take turns on the stage of la Fenice with performances of Madama Butterfly.
