The Silver Lion award for innovation in Theatre has been awarded to the Spanish company Agrupación Señor Serrano as recommended by Director Àlex Rigola in the following motivation: “for its research into a personal form of theatre in which the language of images achieves universal form. For its capacity to transform its stage spaces into installation spaces. For its ability to make the video-camera a protagonist of stories for the theatre. For having embraced the language of cinema in the world of theatre arts without losing the values intrinsic to the live materialization of the stories. Which means perfect balance between what is shown and how it is shown. For having captured international attention quickly and achieved success in a very short time. For the meaning, the effort and the value required to gamble today on a company in southern Europe and to remain steadfast in one’s ethical and aesthetic convictions”.
In the past this acknowledgment has been awarded to: Rimini Protokoll (2011), Angélica Liddell (2013), Fabrice Murgia (2014).
Agrupación Señor Serrano
Agrupación Señor Serrano is a performing arts company built on innovation and research into the new technologies of live performance. In the company’s works – which range from dance to visual theatre – video is an indispensable medium and instrument of interaction, which merges into a dramaturgy created through experimentation, research and a cross-fertilization of languages. Founded in 2006 by Alex Serrano, and composed of Pau Palacios and Barbara Bloin, the company gathers personalities from many different artistic fields.
Agrupación Señor Serrano is based in Barcelona, but the company’s productions are featured in the programmes of theatres and festivals around the world.
