70 filmmakers from all over the world celebrate the 70th Venice Film Festival
09 | 13 | 2013

world premiere screening on 28th August 2013 in Venice

In celebration of the 70th Venice International Film Festival (August 28 – September 7, 2013) the Biennale di Venezia has created the special project, Venezia 70 – Future Reloaded.
70 movie directors from all over the world have been invited to make a short film lasting between 60 and 90 seconds, in total creative freedom.
The invitation has been accepted by great masters, well-known directors, and young filmmakers of recognized talent. All have participated at the Venice Film Festival at least once over the past twenty years. Future Reloaded is both a collective movie tribute to the Festival (the world’s first film festival to celebrate its 70th edition) and a reflection on the future of cinema, as filtered through the personal artistic insight of each of the participating directors.
All the shorts were given their world premiere screening at the Lido on 28th August 2013 during the 70th Venice International Film Festival.
Bernardo Bertolucci, Paul Schrader, Shekhar Kapur, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Abbas Kiarostami, Monte Hellman and Walter Salles are just a few of the great filmmakers who have agreed to contribute to Future Reloaded.
Besides providing profiles of each director, the specific section on the Biennale website ( has been updated on a daily basis with rare photos and unique documents conserved at the Historical Archives of Contemporary Arts (ASAC), as well as with 40 footage excerpts taken from old films conserved at the Archivio Storico Istituto Luce Cinecittà documenting the various editions of the Venice Film Festival, from the very first.  By combining the directors of the new short films with historical tidbits, Future Reloaded brings together the past and the future of cinema - and of the Festival.
The 70th Venice International Film Festival is directed by Alberto Barbera and organized by the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta.
