Ismael Ivo has been confirmed in his post of Director of the Dance Section of the Venice Biennale for the next three years (2009-2011). This was decided by the Biennale Board on 9th October 2008.

The 6th International Festival of Contemporary Dance by the Venice Biennale was dedicated to the theme of Beauty: with performances, workshops, meetings and a video-installation accompanying the event, that ran from 14th to 29th June 2008 in Venice. The Festival was directed by Ismael Ivo.

The Prague-born Jirí Kylián has been awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 6th International Festival of Contemporary Dance (14th - 29th June 2008). The selection of Jirí Kylián, proposed by the Festival’s Director, Ismael Ivo, was approved by the Venice Biennale management on April 23rd. The awards ceremony was held on 17th June at the Teatro Malibran in Venice.
