Biennale College - Theatre 2013

A project by Àlex Rigola - Director of the Theatre section

The Biennale di Venezia has renewed its mission in every one of its fields. In addition to its work to promote knowledge among the wider public (Exhibitions and Festivals) it has developed a strategic programme for training young artists. Known as the Biennale College, it is operative in the field of Dance, Music, Theatre and Cinema, promoting young talents by offering them the opportunity to work side by side with the masters, to develop “creations”. This is the spirit of the Biennale College, a well-equipped bridge that allows young people who wish to engage in one of the arts to do so in the best conditions that an international institution can offer.

Following the experience of the International Theatre Workshop, the Theatre section presents a new project by Director Àlex Rigola starting in 2013. It will include those applicants, selected by the artistic director of the Theatre Biennale, at his own discretion and in agreement with the Masters conducting the individual workshops in the programme, who respond to the goals and requirements of each of the workshops described below, which are an integral part of his artistic project for the year 2013.

This year the Biennale College – Theatre project seeks again to adopt the spirit of a science laboratory: a place of postulation and debate. The Biennale, as a space open permanently to encounter and experimentation, wishes to become established as a valuable opportunity for artists, scholars, spectators, theatre lovers. A factory of ideas that explore the potential of theatre: languages, codes, techniques and technology, the sciences of the stage provide the guidelines for a systematic evaluation, entrusted to masters and experts from around the world.

The Biennale College – Theatre 2013 will offer seventeen workshops.
How to participate >>>

The programme schedules participants to attend the workshops in the morning and through the early afternoon, the meetings in the late afternoon and the performances in the evenings (with specific discounts, limited places).
For all the workshops that require the submission of a video with no further specifications, it is understood that the video must show the applicants’ work for the theatre.

The deadline for the submission of the applications is 3 June 2013.
