Freespace of Libraries

Finland’s representation at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia explores the development of Finnish library architecture and looks towards libraries of the future, conceiving libraries as key buildings reminding us of the values of civic society. Freespace of Libraries seminar will explore the exhibition’s themes, leading up to the opening of Helsinki Central Library Oodi (ALA Architects) in December 2018.

 

Speakers: Antti Nousjoki (architect, ALA Architects), Päivi Meuronen (interior designer, JKMM Architects), Jonas Malmberg (architect, Alvar Aalto Foundation), Tuula Haavisto (Director of Cultural Services and former Head of Library Services, City of Helsinki)
Opening words: Riitta Kaivosoja (Director General, Ministry of Education and Culture, Finland)
Moderated by: Hanna Harris (commissioner of the Finnish pavilion, Director Archinfo Finland) with Anni Vartola (curator of the Finnish pavilion, architecture critic and architectural theorist)
