Diego Tortelli - FO:NO
Description
The starting point for Fo:No is the relationship between voice, body and identity, both in their actual and their negative forms. Speaking of the voice, its opposite is silence or dysphonia. The opposite of virtuosic body is the static. And the opposite of identity is the loss of peculiarity. The desire to analyse these relationships and interactions in a dance project was triggered by a very personal experience of Tortelli: “Over the past years, my father has had various vocal cord surgeries. I was able to follow the changes in the sounds and tones of his voice step by step, and saw how these changes also changed his posture, his interactions with others and his identity. For the first time I understood how the sounds made by our mouth, and especially our vocal cords, can define our body language and therefore our presence in relation to our surroundings”.
