Description

Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps – a seminal masterpiece that Vaslav Nijinsky sensationally choreographed in 1913 for Sergej Djagilev’s Ballet Russes – was daringly recreated as a solo by and with Xavier Le Roy, in 2007, causing a sensation for its original interpretation as “pretending” to conduct a large orchestra. The French performer-choreographer was acknowledged at the time as a leading figure in the invention of “post-dance”. At the Biennale Danza in 2017, Le Roy was unable to dance it again but presented his “signature piece” Self Unfinished performed by Joao Martins. That inspired occasion led to the project to present the Sacre again but in a new form, for three performers.
