Pioneering, adventurous, radical, iconoclastic, determined professionals: women choreographers and dancers have conquered and illustrated Venice.
La Biennale has used the Portego hall at Ca’ Giustinian since 2011 to start an exhibition activity focused on its archival collections. This is aimed to raise awareness in visitors of particular aspects, sometimes not adequately known, of the history of the Biennale. The exhibitions were organised with the collaboration of the directors of the various Biennale artistic departments.
A number of subjects connected to the different activities of the Biennale were examined over the years: from the international leading figures of dance and theatre to the great exhibitions. Conferences on the archives and the archival practice have been added in recent years, and organised in a close connection with the Biennale Art and Architecture exhibitions.
