Synopsis

Hum, sing and shout along with Nikki Amuka-Bird in Make Noise, a unique virtual reality experience using the power of your voice to smash through barriers faced by the suffragettes during the fight to win the vote for women. In a series of colourful and abstract worlds representing the stages of their struggle, from frustration to resistance to victory, you are invited to use your own voice and consider what it means to speak up. Created by BBC VR Hub with Anagram, and incorporating original archive interviews with suffragettes, Make Noise will empower users to follow Emmeline Pankhurst’s advice and ‘make more noise.’

Director’s Statement

Why do we find it so hard to step out and be a voice for change? We wanted to explore using VR to ask for something resonant of our participants. Here in this dreamlike world knitted from the dramatic memories of these ordinary women who 100 years ago did something incredible in defying silence, we invite you to play with your limits and see your own voice.
