Venice Virtual Reality:
The VR line-up at the 75th Festival

Lazzaretto Vecchio island, where Venice VR, the complete official Virtual Reality selection (Competition, Biennale College Cinema - VR and Best Of sections) is exhibited as part of the 75th Venice Film Festival, is located just a short distance from the lagoon side of the Lido, in front of Riva di Corinto and across from the Hotel Excelsior.

Following the first edition in 2017, which was the first-ever competition for Virtual Reality films in an international film festival, the competition titled Venice Virtual Reality returns to the Venice International Film Festival as what has already come to be known as the “VR Island”.

In addition to the films from the Competition, VR projects from the Biennale College and Best Of sections, 15 VR projects seeking their financing will also be presented as part of the Venice Production Bridge.

The Venice Virtual Reality official selection will be presented on Lazzaretto Vecchio (“VR Island”) from August 30th to September 8th, with press previews on August 28th-29th, in the afternoon.

Reservations are obligatory for access to the VR Theater and can be made at the website www.labiennale.org for accredited visitors.

Transportation will be organized from the Festival area (near the Excelsior) with shuttles by bus and boat to Lazzaretto Vecchio island and back.

The following VR viewing methods will be available:

  • seated viewing with visor in the VR Theater
  • stand-up viewing (interactive and linear)
  • three-dimensional live interactive installations

We thank the Polo Museale Veneziano and the Provveditorato alle Opere Pubbliche for kindly allowing us to use Lazzaretto Vecchio island for Venice Virtual Reality.
