One Night in Miami

In the aftermath of Cassius Clay’s defeat of Sonny Liston in 1964, the young boxer meets with friends Malcolm X, Sam Cooke and Jim Brown to decide the course of his life, and possibly that of civil rights history.

This movie is a love letter to the black man’s experience in America. As a mother of one myself it was important for me to show the world what that means. And it was a chance to show these icons as men first, as brothers first. Friends who can speak the hard truths to each other and declare that the time for change is now. This message of change still rings loudly now cutting through the decades. Unfortunately, as the recent killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor have shown us, our struggle for racial equality is far from over. We need each other more than ever, our voices united as one, impossible to ignore, and loud enough to be finally heard.
