A cielo abierto
Synopsis
Two years after the tragic loss of their father in a car accident, brothers Salvador and Fernando find themselves trapped in the discontent generated by the new family dynamics. The arrival of a stepfather and stepsister invades their home and occupies the spaces that once belonged to their father.
When their mother and new husband announce an upcoming trip, Fernando, with a heart full of anger and a thirst for revenge, convinces Salvador to embark on a daring plan: to escape to the northern part of the country to find the truck driver responsible for the fateful accident and kill him. Paula, the daughter of the new husband, unaware of her step-siblings intentions, joins the journey without suspecting the true purpose behind this dangerous trek. Together, the three siblings embark on a journey filled with uncertainty, facing their deepest fears, and seeking direct confrontation with the past that has haunted them for so long.
Directors' Statement
A cielo abierto is a screenplay written by our father during the 1990s. As children, we embarked on countless hunting trips alongside him, traversing the rugged landscapes of northern Mexico, much like the central character of our story. These journeys ignited our imaginations, evoking vivid pictures of the settings, the characters, and the odyssey that awaited them. In A cielo abierto we wanted to investigate the profound consequences that come with grief and loss. It compels us to reflect upon the choices we make when faced with unspeakable pain and how these choices shape our paths to redemption.
