Fernando is a successful estate agent who is worried that his private life does not live up to his dazzling social position: he thinks that his wife Teresa is having an affair with his best friend and business partner Antonio. The three are on a trip driving from Madrid to Almeira for the weekend. Some events heighten the tensions between the three characters, in particular a car accident they witness and a visit from Fernando’s religious fanatic aunt. It is a dreamlike and sober road movie.

Despite the enormous success of Peppermint frappé I felt on edge. I had told a story in that fi lm, in the sense that a story with a very precise narrative thread was told. The reason for my dissatisfaction stemmed from the feeling that the story had trapped me and I wanted to be free of it. So I made Stress-es tres-tres which was a sort of liberation.
