XXIX Mostra internazionale d’arte cinematografica (1968)
1968, the year of the great protests: “Venice is deserted. Venice Year Zero. The global protest, which has taken over many sectors of life in Italy, has affected Italian cinema. A faction of filmmakers demanded immediate workers’ control over the festival in the name of culture. Resistance in the name of tradition and of the incapacity of the government and the festival management to bring immediate change. The inauguration of the film festival was delayed, the idea of a counter-festival foundered, utter failure on the part of the protesters”.
