Description

A “burlesque duo”, would-be twins dressed in black, doing slapstick, falling, colliding, fighting, crying and sighing, delivering sexy poses and gags, unites Mathilde Monnier and La Ribot, both slender and pale, in an abrasive critique to the stereotypes of woman’s role. A series of banal, commonplace then increasingly disturbing phrases, that all begin with “A woman...” to describe predictable / unpredictable behaviour, activates a fraternally conflictual dialogue, both comic and very serious, with underlying quotations from Shakespeare-Hamlet and Kantor-Let the Artists Die.
Gustavia, dazzling and extravagant, assertive, funny, ironic, at the mercy of moods, tremors, flashes of temperament, together or in competition, is sharp, cultured, bold and subtle.
