2012

The new Board of Directors of the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta and composed of Giorgio Orsoni (Vice-President), Luca Zaia, Francesca Zaccariotto and Emmanuele Francesco Maria Emanuele, met on 31st January 2012 in the offices of Ca’ Giustinian and appointed the Director of the Music section.
Composer Ivan Fedele was appointed Director of the Music section for the four-year period 2012-2015.

Workshops with Ircam 2011

In 2011, the Venice Biennale invited Ircam for a series of workshops for young Italian composers. Three different kinds of workshops were scheduled: 1. mixed music 2. software 3. composers at Ircam. On 28th and 30th September, two concerts at the Conservatorio B.Marcello (6 p.m.) completed the week program with recent Ircam pieces and young Italian composers.

History of the Venice Music Biennale

The Venice Biennale's International Festival of Contemporary Music was established in 1930 and was the first festival to run alongside the International Art Exhibition, that had characterized the birth of the Biennale back in 1895. Over the years, the Festival presented world premieres by Stravinsky, Prokofiev and Nono, offering an overview of music in the 20th century.
