69th Venice International Film Festival
Director: Alberto Barbera
This documentary film is a poetic worldwide journey, through the imagination of 11 writers and directors from the 1980s to today. They are French, American, Mexican, English. They are 80, 60 or 40 years old. They don’t necessarily know each other and don’t work together. However, they all belong to the same family. They have firmly established their work, they were able to create an ever-lasting genre, they all share this emotional filmmaking. By entering their world, through the images of their fi lms and personal interviews about their inspirations, their very specific way of working, their subjects, their characters and their directing style, we will discover what they have in common. A style of cinema that strives to communicate a filmmaker’s personal vision to the largest audience possible. Which, beyond different methods of writing and directing, is driven by inspiration and the conveying of emotions, thereby creating a universal language: Commercial art-house cinema. Thanks to these privileged interviews, the film will create a portrait, not exhaustive, of this family whose members will be linked by the fine thread of creation. Light, sound, music, framing, special effects will be used to reveal the individual world of each, in order to reinforce and unveil what inhabits these “artists” of image and emotion: Conteurs d’images.
