Bice Curiger Director of the 54th Exhibition

On 12th May 2010, the Board of the Venice Biennale appointed Bice Curiger as Director of the Visual Arts Sector, with responsibility for curating the 54th International Art Exhibition that will run June 4 to November 27, 2011.
“It is a great honour and a privilege to be asked to be the director of the Venice Biennale, one of the world’s most important overviews on contemporary art. I am very much looking forward to the great challenge”, Bice Curiger said. A graduate of the University of Zurich, Curiger is an art historian, critic and curator.

Record numbers for the 53rd Intl. Art Exhibition

The 53rd International Art Exhibition Making Worlds came to an end on 22 November 2009. The event has been the most visited art show in Italy since the opening on June 7th. 375,702 visitors is the final result. This record number marks an 18% increase compared to the previous edition in 2007 (319.332 visitors).

International Art Exhibition

The Giardini is the historical site of the Venice Biennale's art exhibitions. The Palazzo delle Esposizioni is the main facility there, along with 29 pavilions maintained by participating countries. The Arsenale has been regularly used as an additional exhibition venue since 1999. Learn more >>
