A new feature of this edition – on the occasion of the XXV Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games – is the participation of the Olympic Museum, the official museum of the IOC based in Lausanne. For the first time, it will come to Venice with three Olympic Artists: Olympic and Paralympic athletes who practise a recognised artistic discipline and are part of the museum’s dedicated artistic programme.
A series of workshops for families and schools will be offered, with the aim of raising awareness of the themes and values of Olympic and Paralympic sport among younger participants, through creativity.

On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 February, Slaven Dizdarević, Slovak decathlete and competitor at Beijing 2008, will lead a workshop encouraging families and children to paint with an athlete’s energy, exploring artistic solutions to express concepts such as strength, speed, power and determination.

On Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 February, there will be two sessions for schools featuring two Olympic Artists.

Zeina Rashid, table tennis athlete for Jordan at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 (where she was her country’s flag bearer), will explore Olympic symbols and values through the lens of iconic works of art, encouraging students to express their dreams by nurturing commitment and imagination.

Simone Barlaam, one of Italy’s greatest Paralympic athletes, four-time gold medallist in Paralympic swimming at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Games, will lead drawing workshops aimed at increasing awareness of the Paralympic Movement and the theme of disability in sport.

Alongside the activities and workshops for children, a new feature of this year’s programme is the introduction of activities designed for adults as well.
The programme for adults includes the small tailoring workshop Tessere graffiti, with the creation of creative mandalas and a collective weaving piece; Carnival Yoga; and the Community Dance Workshop Fili su fili, which invites participants to create temporary connections through movement and interaction.

3:00 pm
LABORATORIO PRATICO ARTISTICO
“SPORT, ARTE, VALORI OLIMPICI”
For children aged 6 to 11

In this joyful and imaginative workshop, children become both athletes and artists, transforming movement into colour and energy into art. Guided by Olympic athlete and painter Slaven Dizdarević, they discover how to paint endurance and speed, and how to express strength, power and determination, revealing the deep connections between artistic and athletic practice.

Participants are invited to express themselves through dynamic movement and creative exploration: every gesture celebrates the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship. The workshop culminates in the creation of a large-scale collaborative artwork composed by the artist, bringing together each child’s unique contribution in a vibrant expression of shared rhythm, energy and spirit.

With Slaven Dizdarević, Olympic decathlete and Slovak artist who competed at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
An initiative organised by the Olympic Museum for the Milano Cortina 2026 edition of the Olympian Artists project.

3:00 pm
LABORATORIO PRATICO ARTISTICO
“LA BARCA FANTASMA”
For children aged 6 to 8

Children will have the opportunity to see and touch different original models of historic Venetian boats, form an imaginary crew and learn to perform all the movements a real crew would make. In an exercise of imaginative movement based on fantasy, they will imagine sailing on a ghost boat: casting nets and anchor, hoisting sails, singing traditional Venetian sea-shanties and rowing alla veneziana until they reach their destination. When they land, they will create a collage of drawings of The Ghost Boat, just as each child imagines it… colourful, large or small, with sails, wings and more.

An initiative by Hesperia Iliadou-Suppiej (Arzana & Venti di Cultura), Istituto Europeo di Design, Florence (lecturer in Museology/Museography & Curatorial Practices), for the Community Laboratory of the Faro Laguna network within the Faro Italia Platform, co-funded by Fondazione Venezia.

3:00 pm
LABORATORIO PEDAGOGICO (Available in Italian only)
“LO SPECCHIO: LA PERSONA OLTRE L’IMMAGINE - (chi sono, come mi vedo, come mi vedono)”
For children aged 6 to 8

The project aims to stimulate personal reflection and pedagogical generativity through a workshop on the hermeneutics of the mirror; to encourage the production of authentic knowledge of the self and of others; to explore the difference between “seeing” and “feeling” from a generative perspective; and to prompt reflection on the construction of identity (who I am, how I see myself, how others see me).
The specific educational objectives of the project, in accordance with the O.Ge.S.O. Protocol, are designed to foster a generative path of self-awareness, going beyond appearance and promoting acceptance and empathy towards oneself and others.

An initiative by the UNESCO Chair Generative Pedagogy and Educational Systems to Tackle Inequality.
Chair holder: Prof. Emiliana Mannese

The workshop combines the meditative dimension of the mandala with the freedom of “graffiti”: woven marks that leave traces, tell stories and transform shared space.

No previous experience is required. Participants can approach weaving intuitively, following their own pace and imagination. Individual work gradually intertwines with that of others, shaping a constantly evolving collective artwork.

LABORATORIO PRATICO ARTISTICO (Available in Italian only)
“LA TRASFORMAZIONE DEL BRUCO IN FARFALLA”
For children aged 6 to 10
An adult must be present

During the Venice Carnival, the city transforms: masks, colours and wonder fill streets and squares, and everyone can become something different for a day. This sense of magical change inspires a creative workshop dedicated to metamorphosis, based on the illustrated book The Caterpillar’s Transformation by Suzuko Momoyama.

Participants will create an illustrated plate depicting the extraordinary transformation from caterpillar to butterfly, using an evocative artistic technique based on traced images and careful observation. The result will be a small entomological artwork, rich in precision and poetry, inviting participants to look at the miracle of nature with fresh eyes.

The workshop draws inspiration from the approach of the Japanese illustrator, nicknamed in her home country “the painter of caterpillars”. Raised between Tokyo and the outskirts of New York, Momoyama developed a deep passion for insects from an early age, refined through microscope sketches during biology lessons. Her meticulous and poetic style comes to life through a pointillist technique that reveals metamorphosis in all its beauty.

LABORATORIO MUSICALE
“SUONI IN VALIGIA”

For children aged 3 to 6
An adult must be present

Suoni in valigia is a workshop designed to discover the hidden sounds of everyday objects and instruments from different cultures. A small magical suitcase opens to reveal materials, unconventional instruments and sonic curiosities that children can explore freely. Participants learn to recognise different sounds and create small group “sound stories” through listening, play, movement, and simple rhythmic activities. The workshop fosters creativity, attention, collaboration and personal expression, turning every object into an opportunity to make music. An engaging and inclusive experience that invites children to look at (and listen to) the world with new ears.

“TESSERE GRAFFITI”
Collective weaving between textile mandalas and contemporary interlacings
For all ages, from 6 upwards

Tessere Graffiti is a workshop open to all ages from 6 upwards, inviting participants to explore weaving as a form of personal and collective expression.
Participants will create textile mandalas and contemporary weavings, experimenting with textures, colours and rhythms, using threads, ropes, fabrics and mixed materials,.
