Responding to the title, this discussion will bring together many of those who played a central role in that remarkable moment of theatre history. Using the Festival’s guiding statement as a starting point – Theatre is Body – Body is Poetry – Director Willem Dafoe has invited artists who took part in the Biennale Teatro 1975, directed by Luca Ronconi, to continue the conversation on the dynamics, techniques and possibilities of the actor’s body. Weaving a thread across time, different schools of thought and theatrical cultures, the discussion will tie distinct generations and poetics together by virtue of their shared vitality.
This panel discussion therefore aims to recalibrate and update the terms that have had an impact on international contemporary theatre practice – words like performance, training, environment, direction and dramaturgy – and consider their echoes on today’s stages. The panel will discuss, debate, remember, and explain the theories and practices that have marked the theatre of our time.
