Educational Programme

Biennale Architettura 2023

La Biennale di Venezia’s education programme includes education proposals addressed to the audiences of its Exhibitions and Festivals, such as university students and faculty members, schools, families, art and architecture lovers and beyond.

Educational activities

In the past two years, Biennale Architettura 2021 and Biennale Arte 2022 had 111,164 participants in Education activities, amongst whom 52,392 were youngsters. These figures show that education activities are appreciated and essential for different types of audiences.

A broad Education offer will be available in 2023 as well, addressing itself to individuals and groups of students, children, adults, families, professionals, companies, and universities. All initiatives aim to an active involvement of participants, they are conducted by professional operators, carefully trained by La Biennale, and they fall under the following categories: Guided Itineraries and Workshop Activities and Interactive Initiatives.

La Biennale’s Educational initiatives are realised also thanks to the contribution of Tratto PEN F.I.L.A. Fabbrica Italiana Lapis and Affini SpA, the Official Pencil of the Biennale Architecture Exhibition’s education activities.

Guided Itineraries / Workshop Activities / Interactive Initiatives

Guided Itineraries lead visitors through the exhibition venues of the 18th International Architecture Exhibition and have an open and participatory structure; they are particularly suited to high-schools, universities, architecture lovers, and adults. They are available in three formats: guided tours, focus tours, and theme-based visits.

Workshop Activities and Interactive Initiatives are addressed to all kinds of audiences, with particular attention to young and very young visitors and schools; Workshop Activities are based upon stimulating and interactive approaches, triggering creativity and children’s capacity to elaborate the contents of their experiences. Workshop Activities are available in three versions: digital workshops, making use of ICT-devices, multidisciplinary workshops, delving into the languages of architecture, music, dance, and theatre; science-based workshops, developed in collaboration with the National Council of Research – Insitute of Marine Sciences (CNR-Ismar); theoretical and practical workshops, which stimulate creativity with hands-on activities, and interactive activities for families.

La Biennale’s Educational offer is further enriched by special projects, focusing upon the challenges of creativity and innovation, offering the opportunity to approach the Exhibition themes from specific professional or scholarly perspectives. Such projects are particularly suited to companies, professionals, and scholars, and they focus upon the Exhibition themes as opportunities to update and extend visitors’ competences and sensibilities.

Accessibility project

The inclusive Accessibility project, dedicated to social and educational communities, will be available in 2023 too thanks to the support of JTI (Japan Tobacco International), with the goal of approaching adults who tend to have more difficulties with the fruition of exhibitions and cultural initiatives.

In 2023, a special programme will be dedicated to asylum seekers refugees and migrants. Education activities will also be available in Italian Sign Language (LIS) and for visitors who are blind.

Accessessibility of contents and themes will be enhanced by formats and tools in easy-to-read language.

Activities will be available in Italian and in five foreign languages and will be conducted by professional staff. Reservation is required. Average duration is 1h 45’.

Activities for schools

For schools from the Veneto Region, La Biennale organises a special service, with a reservation and subject to limited availability, with free transportation services from school venues to Venice, by Biennale BUS, and a Biennale water shuttle service, to Giardini and Arsenale.

Special free Open Days for teachers from all school grades shall be organised by La Biennale, on 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 September. Open days include a presentation of education activities related also to Biennale Musica (16>29 October 2023).
