A specially created, site-specific performance of Merce Cunningham’s work, on and beside the canals in Castello. Excerpts from dances spanning six decades including choreography from the iconic Piazza San Marco Event were taught, rehearsed and arranged by Daniel Squire and Jeannie Steele – two seminal dancers of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company – and learnt by the 16 dancers of the Biennale College. The artists perform on floating stages and journey through key locations to “sail” into the Arsenale where an outdoor 40-minute Event occurs. The costumes of the performers have been designed by Matthieu Blazy for Bottega Veneta, continuing the line of exquisite Cunningham’s cross-artform collaborations.
