“You must know how to dance”, Farkas Molnar used to say when describing the famous masked balls at the Bauhaus.
Since the body is at the centre of the ball and the Ball Theatre is center stage at the French Pavilion, the aim of Prospect Station is to devise and create a series of architectural, technical, portable, remote-controllable, mechanical, and sci-fi costumes. In a context of environmental emegency, utopia is a way to make the social and technical imagination new.
Going through the artistic practice and the theoretical fields of architecture, science fiction and the history of technology, each costume will embody an architectural, technical or environmental issue.
A catalogue will include illustrated instructions on how to make and use the costumes.
Midway between hi-tech innovation and lo-tech reflexivity, these “nature-culture” costumes will become “narrative-objects” at the centre of a debate on the relationship between technology, environment and the ways to live in the world.
