Synopsis
In a small town in New Zealand, a young boy feels an unexpected bond with a Mormon missionary.
Director’s Statement
Socks explores the yearning I felt in childhood for a positive male presence. Raised by a single mother and frequently bullied by other boys in my town, I grew wary of men. Yet I remember the visits from the Mormon missionaries — how they spoke with kindness, made eye contact, listened attentively, remembered the stories I shared, and prayed with me. In those moments, I felt briefly seen, and experienced a sense of intimacy I had longed for.
