Therme Art Program, the global art initiative of the technology-driven wellness company Therme Group, is pleased to partner with the British Council to present Therme Forum during the finissage of the 58th Venice Biennale, on November 23, 2019 at the British Pavilion.
This marks the second year of an ongoing partnership between the two organizations, following Therme Group’s support of British participation in both art and architecture biennales.

The latest iteration of Therme Forum in Venice, The Right to Refuse: Resisting Predominant Narratives as a Condition of Originality, will bring together a group of eight panelists from the fields of art and design. Together, they will explore the role and responsibility of artists in imagining and generating spaces in our cities that are unrestricted by the mediation of commerce or technological filters.

The panel will feature Emma Dexter (Director, Visual Arts, British Council); Claudia Paetzold (Art Advisor & Curator); Lucia Pietroiusti (Curator, General Ecology, Serpentine Galleries, and Curator, Lithuanian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale 2019); Roya Sachs (Curator, Lever House Art Collection); Zoé Whitley (Senior Curator, Hayward Gallery); Sarah Wilson (Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art, Courtauld Institute); Robert C. Hanea (President & CEO, Therme Group), and will be moderated by Therme Art Program Curator Mikolaj Sekutowicz (Vice President, Therme Group).

Against the backdrop of the 58th Venice Biennale, this Therme Forum will examine the possibilities of refusal. Specifically, it will consider the work of artists who choose to work outside the current system of explaining and contextualizing art. Using these artists as a starting point, panelists will discuss the social and political efficacy of refusal, and how it might be used to ensure artists thrive outside our conventional market system.

Admission requires a Biennale Arte 2019 ticket.
