Domus Diasporica
ALBUM
DESCRIPTION
The project Domus Diasporica, created by visual artist Mladen Bundalo, centres on the phenomenon of diaspora, the relationship to home, and questions of identity and belonging within the processes of globalisation and contemporary capitalism.
The title of the project evokes the relationship between home and diaspora, raising questions of belonging and the paradox between rootedness and stability (home) and dispersion (diaspora). The experiences and situations Bundalo encountered when leaving his country of origin and entering diasporic life have shaped his artistic inquiry, articulated through a range of media, including film, photography, site-specific installations and drawings on paper.
What does “home” mean when one changes place of living? How does this meaning shift in relation to personal experience and life circumstances, and to what extent is it shaped by historical, economic and political factors? These questions underpin the works comprising Domus Diasporica, opening a space for layered interpretation. They weave together the narrative of home as a fundamental human need, the experiences that form identity, and the artist’s perspective, shaped by a complex dialogue with home, its loss, transition and regeneration.
