The Board of Directors of La Biennale di Venezia, upon the recommendation of President Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, appointed Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu as Directors of the Architecture Department, with the specific task of curating the 20th International Architecture Exhibition which will take place in 2027, from May 8th to November 21st (pre-opening on May 6th and 7th).
Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu are architects and educators. They founded Amateur Architecture Studio in 1997. Together they established the Architecture Department at the China Academy of Art in 2003 and the School of Architecture in 2007, where Wang Shu is its first Dean and Lu Wenyu is the Director of the Sustainable Construction Center.
