description

Fermata: Hong Kong in Venice presents site-specific installations by two Hong Kong artists, Kingsley Ng and Angel Hui. Both draw deeply from Hong Kong’s cultural context and collective life experiences, reinterpreting the subtle aesthetics and rhythms of daily life through an evocative composition of light, sound and movement.

Kingsley Ng transforms ordinary urban rituals into meditative encounters, drawing viewers into a gentle pause where transient moments, from rain-soaked puddles, rising bubbles, to swaying laundry, reveal their quiet poetry amid the rush of city life. Through site-specific installations spanning the courtyard and inner galleries, he crafts rhythmic spaces that invite reflection on the overlooked rhythms shaping our everyday existence.

Angel Hui, in turn, guides visitors towards often-dismissed objects and beings, creating intimate encounters that unveil the subtle, underlying pulses of urban life, reimagining the familiar with poetic tenderness.

Like a fermata – a musical breath held at the performer’s discretion – this exhibition carves out a soft, rhythmic space amid the swift currents of contemporary life, reminding us to pause and listen to the understated melodies that shape our attention, care and quiet sense of wonder.
