Description

Second Nature | Manyonga asks what happens when the brain’s capacity to rewire itself meets a world reshaped by technology, crisis, and imagination. Neuroplasticity functions as both metaphor and method: a way to think through how identities, stories, and societies are continuously reorganised in response to changing conditions. It sharpens urgent questions: what remains of the human when the machine becomes second nature? Can art still lead, or is it destined to follow the velocity of innovation?

The artists Gideon Gomo, Eva Raath, Felix Shumba, Franklyn Dzingai, and Pardon Mapondera work at the edge of transformation. Their practices understand resilience as the courage to reorganise, invent, and begin again. As digital technologies accelerate the flow of information, they remake the relationship between creators and audiences, stretching sensory thresholds and interaction expectations. The exhibition unfolds through four interconnected approaches, centred on perception at the intersection of humanity and environment, pandemic realities, and digital revolutions. Second Nature | Manyonga proposes art as a site of perceptual reconfiguration, reframing media as both material and concept, while extending new philosophies for new media practice.
