Spatialography

Venice Immersive

Note:“Spatialography” is a coined term combining “Spatial” with “-graphy,” a mode of depiction. Technologies such as photogrammetry and 3D Gaussian Splatting have brought new means to record and reconstruct real-world places. Just as photography and film evolved from documentation into expressive media, spatial media will develop techniques beyond simple recording. This world presents prototype works exploring how these techniques can serve as modes of expression, and whether space itself can speak. To push expression within VRChat’s constraints, custom converters and shaders were developed to display 3DGS with original visual treatments. The practice also extends into the physical world: VR spaces are captured and 3D-printed, materializing virtual space in reality. “Spatialography” is not a single work, but an ongoing practice of transforming recorded space into expressive form.
