Synopsis
Elite ski mountaineers Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson fell in love while reaching the pinnacle of their sport. Their drive sharpened into a shared dream: to climb and ski Everest’s direct North Face – the most dangerous climb on the mountain and the most coveted ski line on earth. Thousands have summited via Nepal’s southeast ridge, but only a handful have reached the top by this route, and no one has ever skied down.
Directors' Statements
Everest: The Other Side examines the trade-offs required to pursue extraordinary goals. We set out to make this film not only because Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson’s story grips you, but because Hilaree was a singular human being. After tragedy strikes, Jim makes a deliberate choice to fulfil their shared dream, offering a parable of how to endure grief. Seven years in the making, the film required documenting a near-impossible expedition to one of the most remote places on Earth.

Hilaree Nelson shared the rope with me for two decades, and Jim Morrison has been a climbing partner for years. In Everest: The Other Side, I’m on the mountain with friends, carrying a camera where one mistake ends everything. The film is about love, loss and courage. I wanted to show Everest as never before, filming one of its deadliest routes while capturing a love that outlives loss. I hope audiences reflect on what truly matters and how far they would go to become themselves.
