Director Frederick Wiseman was an undisputed master of documentary cinema and an unforgettable voice of independent film. La Biennale di Venezia awarded him the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice International Film Festival in 2014.
This film follows the American Ballet Theatre from rehearsals in its New York studios to performances on tour in Athens and Copenhagen. Choreographers and ballet masters work with dancers across the company, while glimpses of administrative and fund-raising work reveal the organisational structure sustaining one of the world’s leading classical ballet companies.
