Elle Sofe Sara - Láhppon/Lost
Description
In Láhppon/Lost, the body emerges as a form of historical, social and political documentation through the work of choreographer, director and filmmaker Elle Sofe Sara, who draws creative energy from Sámi culture and from the all-encompassing landscape of the far Scandinavian North where Norway, Russia, Finland and Sweden converge.
The work echoes and refracts into the present a crucial episode in Sámi history: the Kautokeino Rebellion of 1852 against the Norwegian authorities and their policies of forced assimilation. Through this lens, the piece reflects on the human mechanisms of fear, injustice and hope.
For the first time, a Sámi artist, Elle Sofe Sara, together with Icelandic choreographer Hlín Diego Hjálmarsdóttir, directs 19 of the 70 dancers of the ballet company of the Oslo Opera House.
