Bar Nightingale Revisited
Masaru Hatanaka
Masaru Hatanaka recreates the atmosphere of his legendary Bar Nightingale, opened in Tokyo in 2012, within the ORIGINE space at the Biennale Musica 2026. Here, moving images and music intersect in ever-changing combinations. None of the images is intended to convey a complete meaning on its own. Experienced together with the music, they form an irregular constellation of fragments that defies fixed interpretation, instead inviting each visitor to discover a narrative of their own. The synchronicities that emerge between image and sound arise from each person’s own memories and associations. The interior is a dream-like space filled with artworks and objects collected by Hatanaka. Familiar and unfamiliar people, places, and memories coexist within a single world that, although seemingly chaotic at first, gradually reveals its own internal logic.
