Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049), will have its out-of-competition world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival of La Biennale di Venezia, directed by Alberto Barbera (September 1—11, 2021).

Dune, presented by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, is the highly anticipated big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert's seminal science fiction bestseller of the same name. The film will be shown on Friday 3 September 2021, in the Sala Grande at the Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido di Venezia.

Dune stars an acclaimed cast, including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Sharon Duncan Brewster, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Chang Chen, David Dastmalchian, with Charlotte Rampling, with Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Denis Villeneuve directed Dune from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth based on the novel of the same name written by Frank Herbert. Mary Parent, Denis Villeneuve, Cale Boyter and Joe Caracciolo, Jr. produced the film. The executive producers were Tanya Lapointe, Joshua Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert.

Denis Villeneuve (1967, Trois-Rivières, Québec, Canada) is one of the premier filmmakers working today. The Academy Award®-nominated French Canadian is best known for having directed Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, Sicario, Prisoners and Incendies.
