Description
A living pavilion that brings together music, film, and food as interconnected cultural practices, unfolding through gatherings that explore hospitality, migration, memory, and continuity across the Arab world. The temporary pavilion is designed by Thai artist Rirkrit Tiravanija, with the monumental resin and jerrycan sculpture by Kuwaiti-Puerto Rican artist Alia Farid installed within the tent. Lebanese artist Tarek Atoui brings together musicians who respond to field recordings and archival sources from across the region in improvised performances.
Qatari-American artist Sophia Al-Maria presents a film on the figure of the travelling musician, screened inside the pavilion. These explorations of continuity extend into a culinary programme organised by Palestinian chef Fadi Kattan, who brings together food and drink from across the Arab world, highlighting chefs working at the intersection of preservation and evolution while tracing the cross-cultural impacts of migration and trade.
