Emma Dante - I fantasmi di Basile
Description
The recipient of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at this edition of the Biennale Teatro, Emma Dante presents I fantasmi di Basile as a world premiere, drawing on the imaginative and baroque universe of the Neapolitan writer Giambattista Basile, whose works she has previously brought to the stage, including La scortecata, Pupo di zucchero and Re Chicchinella.
“I have always detected, in his tales, something real and contemporary, something that belongs to us,” says Emma Dante. “What I like about Basile, therefore, is his truth. Despite the extraordinary architecture he constructs through language, he always retains something profoundly realistic. In I fantasmi di Basile there are some fragments of our trilogy, which evoke the ghosts at its centre.”
