“Shot in 25 days the film is inspired by the suicide of Armin Meier, Fassbinder’s lover (…). A bitter film, underscored by Mahler’s music, which describes a world that has turned into hell. There are two moments that make this one of the German director’s most emotion charged films: the flashback at the slaughterhouse and the moment narrated by the sister (played by Lilo Pempeit, who in real life is Fassbinder’s mother).
