Description

To meet the challenges faced by society, we must do things differently from how we have done them before. We must explore the possible – innovation is not a means unto itself, but a tool to move from the idea of change to the implementation of new sustainable solutions. Possible Spaces presents four cases in which architects, in close partnership with others, tread new paths to answer the challenges of mobility, housing, the building industry and cultural memory. Each of the cases presents a distinct approach to sustainable development, from the radical to the incremental, the technical to the emotional. And each shows that change requires partnership across disciplines, as well as with users, researchers and institutional actors. A fifth element of the exhibition is BLOX, the just-opened home of architectural innovation and partnerships in Copenhagen. What architecture gives in each instance is a ‘free space’ for the imagination – the gift of making that which we hope for physical.
